I trained in Community Theatre Arts at Rose Bruford College and hold an MPhil in Playwriting from the University of Birmingham.
I began my career as an actor, performing in theatre, television and alternative cabaret, while also writing musicals. Over time, my focus shifted from performance to writing for stage and latterly screen. Composing has remained a constant thread throughout my work.
As a playwright and screenwriter, I have been recognised through awards including the Page Turner Screenplay Award (winner, 2024), the John Whiting Award (nominee), and shortlisting for the Terence Rattigan Award, alongside longlistings for the Bruntwood and Papatango Prizes.
As a composer, I have written songs and scores for over 35 productions. Selected credits include Faith (Royal Shakespeare Company), Maggie May (Liverpool Royal Court), Ostrich Boys (Birmingham Rep) and Dinosaur Dreams (Unicorn Theatre, Writers’ Guild Award nomination for Best Play for Young People).
My opera Her Day (libretto by Vanessa Oakes) premiered as part of Coventry City of Culture in 2022.
In the same year, I was writer-on-attachment at the Royal Shakespeare Company.
In 2024, I received Developing Your Creative Practice funding from Arts Council England for In My Shorts, a short story R&D project.
I am a member of BOLDtext Playwrights, a collective of West Midlands writers whose work has been staged at venues including Birmingham REP and site-specific locations across the region. I am also a member of the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain and Equity.
