Sayan was born and raised in Central London. After leaving school she worked as a dresser in the West End then went to Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama to study on the Community Theatre Arts Course.
While at Drama school she formed The Hot Doris Band with three other women. On leaving drama school all four women and two other ex-students set up a musical theatre company, Urban Opera and Sayan wrote the music for and performed in their first two shows. After both of those groups disbanded, Sayan continued to work successfully as an actor, in regional theatre, theatre-in-education and touring as well as in TV and film; as a composer, writing music and songs for over 30 productions; and as a writer of plays, adaptations and musicals. In 2008 she took a Masters in Playwriting Studies at Birmingham University.
She also works as a director, dramaturg and as a visiting lecturer in playwriting, an acting tutor and has run master classes in musical theatre.
Sayan now lives in Coventry and belongs to the Midland’s writer’s collective, BOLDtext Playwrights, who regularly stage readings of new work at The Birmingham Rep, Open Door.
She is a member of Mosaic Opera Collective who will be developing a series of short operas for later in the year.
