Sayan trained at Rose Bruford on the Community Theatre Arts Course and, after leaving, worked extensively as an actor. She holds a Masters in Playwriting from Birmingham University. 

Sarah Paul as Thomas Paine in Another ParadiseAs a playwright she has been Nominated for The John Whiting Award, shortlisted for the Terrence Rattigan Award and the BBC Script Room, longlisted for The Bruntwood and The Papatango Prize, joint winner of the Capital New Writing Festival and is a recipient of the Peggy Ramsay Foundation Award.

As a composer Sayan has written a wide range of music, musicals and songs for over 30 productions including the musical Maggie May (Liverpool Royal Court 2018) Ostrich Boys (Original production, Birmingham Rep), Dinosaur Dreams (Unicorn – nominated for The Writers’ Guild Award for best play for Young People). Her song Round and Round (Joey’s Song) was awarded a merit in the Unisong International Song Contest.

She is a member of the Mosaic Opera Collective, who came together in 2017 originally under the auspices of the Royal Opera House. Mosaic had a residency in 2018 at Grimeborn, where a short excerpt of Sayan’s new opera in development, Red Seed, was performed by the international soprano, Jessie Tse.

She is member of BOLDtext Playwrights, a collective of playwrights in the West Midlands who have produced readings and plays in The Door at the REP and site specific venues https://boldtextcollective.wordpress.com/
